Idiocnemis strumidens

Diagnosis

Male : Idiocnemis strumidens is a member of the inornata-group and is closely related to I. fissidens. The male has small circular turquoise postocellar spots surrounded by black. The prothorax has distinctly raised pronotal tubercles, and the posterior lobe is rectangular with a broadly rounded posterior margin. The synthorax has an incomplete antehumeral stripe, usually consisting of an anterior pale stripe and a posterior spot, while the metepisternal stripe is turquoise and often divided into anterior and posterior portions. The superior appendage bears a slender inner subdistal spine close to the tip, unlike the finger-shaped process of I. fissidens. The inferior appendages are about three-fourths as long as the superior appendages. Female : The female is similar to the male but generally paler. It can be recognized by the rectangular posterior pronotal lobe, which is not roof-like raised medially, and by small black spots on the pronotal pits. The abdomen has pale basal and subdistal markings on the intermediate segments, with dark distal rings. Compared with I. fissidens, the female has smaller black spots on the pronotal fossae and a less raised posterior pronotal lobe.

Locality

Distribution

Ecology

Habitat

Gassmann does not provide a specific habitat description. Based on the locality data, this species is likely associated with lowland forest streams or shaded creeks, but this should be treated as an inference rather than confirmed habitat information.
