Protosticta rozendalorum

Diagnosis

A medium-sized Protosticta known from the Sangihe Islands. The male is brownish black with creamish markings on the thorax and lacks an antehumeral stripe. The pronotum is relatively simple, with a flat black posterior lobe lacking erect processes. The wings are hyaline; the pterostigma is pale, and the arculus is situated just distal to Ax2. The abdomen is slender, with segments 9–10 slightly inflated. Segments 8 and 9 show pale blue dorsal markings, while segment 10 is brownish black. The male anal appendages are highly distinctive: the superior appendages curve smoothly inward and bear a triangular ventral tooth around the middle, followed by a low tubercle and elongated emargination toward the apex. The inferior appendages are strongly modified, with the distal portion bent outward at nearly a right angle and then directed posteriorly; the tip forms a shiny, subquadrangular structure with a short inner tooth and terminal hook connected by a delicate chitinized veil. The female resembles the male in general coloration but has a shorter abdomen and long valvae extending well beyond the anal appendages. Protosticta rozendalorum was collected from a small shaded stream in Sangihe, together with P. simplicinervis and Rhinocypha frontalis. It is currently known only from the type locality on the north-western slope of Gunung Sahendaruman, at about 600–650 m elevation.
