Diagnosis
Male: Drepanosticta spatulifera is the smallest species of Drepanosticta found in Java. The head is predominantly black with dark brown eyes. The prothorax is flesh-coloured, similar to gazella, with a black anterior lobe. The posterior lobe is broad and black with a very thin, flattened process at each outer angle. These processes are much smaller than those in gazella. The abdomen is brownish-black, featuring small yellowish-brown rings at the bases of segments 3–7. The appendages are black. This species can be easily distinguished by the large sky-blue patches on abdominal segments 8-10.
Female: In the adult female, the prothorax is whitish except for its anterior and posterior lobes, with the posterior lobe lacking hornlike processes. The synthorax and abdominal segments 1–7 resemble those of the male. The dorsum of segment 8 is blue, while segments 9 and 10 are black. The valves are much shorter than in gazella, presenting a convex ventral margin in profile view that does not extend beyond the tip of segment 10.
