Diagnosis
Male : Medium-sized Drepanosticta with a generally dark brown to black colour pattern. Head with bluish-white labrum and anteclypeus; anterior portion of the labrum black, mandibles brownish black with pale lower margins. Vertex and postocular region black, with a well-developed transverse occipital carina and slightly elevated lateral extremities.
The prothorax is brown dorsally and paler laterally. The posterior lobe bears a pair of slender flattened processes extending backwards over the synthorax; these processes are wider near the base and gradually taper toward the apex. Compared with related species, the pronotal processes are shorter and more slender.
Synthorax mostly blackish brown, with faint paler markings. Legs are dirty yellow with darker rings at the joints. Wings are hyaline, with brown venation and brown pterostigma.
The abdomen is predominantly brown, with segments 8–10 darker brownish black. Segments 3–7 have pale basal annules and pale markings. Male anal appendages are distinctive: the superior appendages are constricted near the base, flattened distally, and bear an outward-directed blunt process; the inferior appendages are shorter than in related species, slender, and strongly curved inward.
Female : Similar to the male, but the posterior pronotal processes are shorter and terminate more abruptly. The abdominal segments 8–10 are brownish black, while the remaining segments are brown with pale markings. The anal appendages are brown and the styli are brownish black.

Locality
Distribution

Collected along a slowly flowing rivulet in somewhat disturbed primary rainforest at approximately 150–200 m elevation (Van Tol, 2007).
Remarks
Notes
Belongs to the Drepanosticta megametta species-group. Within this group, D. rudicula is closely related to D. halmahera and D. misoolensis, but differs mainly by the structure of the posterior pronotal processes and male anal appendages.
The name rudicula refers to the shape of the posterior pronotal processes, which resemble a small spoon (rudicula = spoon).
