Diagnosis
Male : A medium-sized Drepanosticta with a predominantly brown colour pattern and weak pale markings on the synthorax. Head with bluish-white labrum and mandibles; labrum bordered with brown anteriorly. The remaining parts of the head are brownish black, with pale genae and small pale markings near the postocular region. Antennae brownish black with a pale pedicellus.
The prothorax is predominantly pale brown but darker dorsally. The posterior lobe is darker, with the median part paler and the anterior lobe simpler in structure.
The synthorax is brown, with only weakly contrasting pale markings. The dorsal carina is paler, while darker stripes occur near the humeral region. Legs are dirty yellow with darker rings at the articulations. Wings are hyaline with brown venation and brown pterostigma.
The abdomen is mostly brown, with segments 8–10 darker brownish black. Segment 2 has a triangular dark marking, while segments 3–7 have pale basal markings. Male anal appendages are characteristic: the superior appendages are curved inward in dorsal view, slightly longer than the inferior appendages, and the inferior appendages are slender with the distal part compressed and curved.
Female : Only one known female specimen was available and was damaged; therefore, diagnostic female characters are insufficiently known (Van Tol, 2007).

Remarks
Notes
Belongs to the Drepanosticta moluccana species-group. The species is characterized by a synthorax without distinct pale markings and relatively short, simple male anal appendages.
Earlier records of D. moluccana from Ambon are now assigned to Drepanosticta amboinensis. The true D. moluccana is currently considered restricted to Buru.
