Palaiargia obiensis

Diagnosis

Male : Palaiargia obiensis is a large blue-and-black species known only from an immature male. It closely resembles P. perimecosoma in general coloration and wing venation but is smaller and can be readily distinguished by the structure of the anal appendages. The head lacks pale postocular spots and bears a broad creamy-yellow transverse band across the frons. The synthorax has a colour pattern similar to P. perimecosoma and P. optata, although the pale lateral band is shortened dorsally, leaving the dorsal quarter of the thorax black. The abdomen is exceptionally long, with reduced blue markings compared to P. perimecosoma, particularly on the middle abdominal segments. The superior anal appendages are relatively short and slender, each bearing a distinct, slender basal spur directed obliquely forward. The genital ligula resembles that of P. perimecosoma but differs in having much shorter median filaments on the recurved apical lobe. Female : unknown.
