Diagnosis
Male : Teinobasis euglena is a slender species with a predominantly black body and brilliant metallic blue-green markings. The adult male has a black head with vivid bluish-green genae and a pair of large metallic blue postocular spots. The prothorax is black with blue markings along the sides. The synthorax is almost entirely black, with only a narrow yellow line along the lateral margin and a metallic green median band on the sides. The abdomen is long and very slender, mostly black, with bronzed green markings on the basal segments and a metallic green sheen on segments 1–2. The tenth abdominal segment bears a distinctive sharply crescent-shaped subapical ridge and a large deeply excavated median process. The anal appendages are well developed; the superior appendages are dark, thick at the base and curved inward, while the inferior appendages are shorter and yellowish-brown.
Female : The female differs strongly from the adult male in colouration. The head is paler, with yellowish labium and labrum, greenish genae, and metallic green postocular spots. The synthorax is carmine to brownish with a longitudinal metallic blue-green band, while the abdomen is darker reddish-brown with bronzed green markings. Segment 10 has a distinctive V-shaped incision at the posterior margin and a conspicuous process projecting from inside the segment. The anal appendages are pale yellow and longer than in the male.
