Diagnosis

Male : A small and compact species with a predominantly dark purple and black colour pattern. The head has a whitish labium, ochreous-green labrum with a basal black stripe, and purplish genae and clypeus. The vertex is dark bronzed-green, with narrow pale postocular markings that are widely separated from each other. The synthorax is mainly black above with a pair of narrow, straight purple antehumeral stripes and vivid purple lateral areas. The abdomen is slender and mostly dark purple to black, with reduced pale markings. Segments 8–9 are entirely purple, while segment 10 is largely black. Locality

Distribution

Originally described from western Java, Indonesia, with type material from South Preanger, including Djampang at about 800 m a.s.l. and near Soekarnegara. The IUCN Red List also reports a record from Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, but notes that confirmation from Javan specimens is still needed.

Ecology

Habitat

Found in shallow weedy marshes at the foot of densely forested hills. Adults were described as very inconspicuous because of their dull purplish colouration.

Remarks

Notes

Listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List. The taxonomic identity of recent records should be treated cautiously, especially because confirmation against material from Java is still required.
